Step into the world of Johann Sebastian Bach at Green Music Center’s Schroeder Hall with an evocative program exploring his creative output from 1714 while at the court of Weimar. Tasked with composing a new cantata each month for the princely chapel, the Himmelsburg, Bach created a breathtaking series of choral-orchestral works for various occasions. These cantatas showcase an impressive emotional and musical range—from soul-searching reflection to joyful celebration.

This concert offers a curated selection from three of Bach’s most compelling cantatas written during this prolific time: Cantata 21: Ich hatte viel Bekümmernis, Cantata 147: Herz und Mut und Tat und Leben, and Cantata 80: Ein Feste Burg. With varying instrumentation and expressive brilliance, these works reflect Bach’s genius as a young composer in his thirties. This powerful musical evening will bring Bach’s early masterpieces to life.
