Lodging / Sonoma

MacArthur Place Inn & Spa

MacArthur place offers classic luxury within walking distance of Sonoma Square. Book one of the two private cottages for the ultimate getaway: each contains a fireplace, hydrotherapy tub, stocked wet bar, original artwork, and a porch overlooking the luscious gardens.

Insider Tip

Order anything made with fruit at the hotel restaurant, SADDLES. The beautiful grounds contain 12 types of fruit trees, and their output is used in the breakfast and dessert offerings when in season.

Landmark Vineyards

If you’ve ever wanted to spend the night in a vineyard, you’re in luck: Landmark Vineyards, a premium Chardonnay and Pinot Noir producer in Kenwood, recently remodeled their beautiful Guest Suite to include local artwork and Spanish bathroom tiles. The main draw is the location, however: the bedroom opens right onto a patio surrounded by vineyards, with views of the Mayacamus Mountain Range in the background. The suite books up quickly (as of this writing, it’s booked three months out), but if you’re lucky enough to reserve a night or two, you’ll never see Wine Country the same again.

Insider Tip

A complimentary horse-drawn carriage tour of the property is offered in the summer, so grab a glass of wine and climb aboard.

Restaurants / Forestville And Graton

Farmhouse Inn & Restaurant

This hidden gem, set in picturesque Forestville, has certainly earned its Michelin star, but you’ll still feel like you’re the first person discovering it, as you pull up to the quaint white farmhouse, settle into your secluded dining table, and order from the inspired menu. California farm-to-table offerings and a stellar wine list make it an experience to write home about.

Insider Tip

The hotel owners also have a winery, Lost and Found Winery. Make an appointment to taste some incredible Sonoma wines before heading to the restaurant for dinner.

Restaurants / Healdsburg

Madrona Manor Restaurant

At Madrona Manor, Chef Jesse Malgren lets the estate’s garden guide the menu each night: past favorites include such wonders as Scallop Crudo with lemon, flowers, and local seaweed, and Caramelized Cauliflower with preserved lemon hollandaise. This Michelin-rated restaurant is housed in a historic inn on the outskirts of the classic Wine Country town of Healdsburg.

Insider Tip

If you can’t get a reservation at this popular restaurant, try for The Lounge at the hotel instead. The food is still ambitious, but a slightly more laid-back vibe pervades

Things To Do /

Bohemian Grove

The Bohemian Grove is the stuff of legend. This super-secret camp in Monte Rio is the retreat location for the exclusive San Francisco-based men’s Bohemian Club, to which some of the wealthiest, most powerful, and most famous men in the U.S. belong (including former presidents, oil tycoons, and legendary musicians and artists). No outsiders are allowed on the hallowed grounds, so what goes on there is shrouded in mystery, but there have been reports over the years of nature ceremonies, theatrical performances, and of course, plenty of (wine) drinking.
