This exhibition celebrates the legacy of San Francisco’s Italian American Modernist artists: Elio Benvenuto, Lydia Macchiarini Benvenuto, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, and Sam Provenzano. Each artist played a crucial role in shaping the post-war arts scene with their distinct styles.

Elio Benvenuto, a master sculptor and WWII Partisan, became a cultural leader in San Francisco, founding the Arts Commission Gallery. His works explore spiritual and philosophical themes. Lydia Macchiarini Benvenuto, a self-taught painter and textile artist, championed feminist social consciousness and exhibited with notable artists like Jay DeFeo.

Lawrence Ferlinghetti, co-founder of City Lights Booksellers, was a prominent expressionist artist engaged in social issues, while Sam Provenzano was known for his abstract expressionism and influence in the Bay Area art community.

The exhibition will run until December 28th, 2024.
