Teira Wines

Welcome

Teira Wines was founded in 2001; continuing a Sonoma County family farming, winemaking tradition dating to 1974. Named after founder Dan and Alexis Donahoe's daughters Thea + Keira, the “Teira” label is also a play on the term “terroir” in French and “tierra” in Spanish.

Alexis’ father, Frank Woods, founded Clos du Bois Winery in the Alexander Valley of Sonoma County in 1974. Widely recognized as an early pioneer of the California premium wine movement, Frank built and promoted Clos du Bois’ famous Marlestone Cabernets and Briarcrest Merlot wines alongside Robert Mondavi (Mondavi), Warren Winiarski (Stag’s Leap) and Bernard Portet (Clos du Val).

Alexis received her Masters of Landscape Architecture from the University of Virginia, and runs the family’s “certified sustainable” vineyards in the Dry Creek Valley. The Woods Vineyard land comprises 100 acres located along the Dry Creek itself, at the Southern end of the Valley only minutes from the town of Healdsburg. Cool nights come from the fog that rolls in from the Russian River Valley, only 1 mile South of the vineyards. Warm days ripen the Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Zinfandel and Merlot to optimal sugar levels for winemaker Bill Knuttel’s experienced hand in crafting each of the Teira Wines.
